Homemade Gingerbread Spice Syrup

I was in the States when Starbucks started selling their Pumpkin Spice Latte for the season. After tasting one, I was determined to start experimenting with flavored simple syrups. I had heard that they were easy to make, but hadn’t ever really taken the simple syrup plunge. Now that I have, I plan on always having…

roadside shopping

Shopping in Burundi can be a very stress-full experience. There is a way to minimize it though, just take the road to Bugarama on your way to the coffee hills and let the vegetables come to you. Danielle Carlson - The love of rhubarb must come from the WI roots. I grew up on it…yummy rhubarb and strawberry crisp…yum.

longmilescoffee - I (Ben) love it! It can be a bit intimidating, its a crush of very pushy “eager” sellers. But it’s the only place in all Burundi where you can find rhubarb. And I love rhubarb.

Rudolf Penninkhof - If you know where it comes from (organic healthy cows) it’s probably a lot better not to heat or pasteurise the milk, you know, raw milk is super super healthy! And have you heard about Colostrum..? Look it up.. ;-)

-Rudolf.

longmilescoffee - we like it when people make coffee in our honor, thanks! :) and dan, our boy is part of africa through and through.

Daniel Berryman, daninreallife - Nothing about yogurt, but one of your boys climbing on the truck has gone Burundi, no shoes.

Nicole Rogers - Did a search for making yogurt and came across your blog. This site and your family’s story is inspiring. Tonight I will make yogurt and coldbrew coffee in your honor.

Willie’s Cacao

I love Willie’s Cacao. I love it so much that it makes me want to jump up and down and run around he garden shouting, “Free Willy!” Ok, that was a bit much, but you get the picture. Chocolate in it’s raw form, from a single origin, ready to be used in a million bah-zillion…
